Since starting LighterLife I've found myself shopping online in a bid to distract myself from reaching for the fridge. Could I be swapping one addiction for the other?
The simple answer is yes. It's good that you've caught yourself using this way of distracting yourself. It's easier to interrupt a habit now before it becomes ingrained and turns into an addiction. Distraction is a useful technique in the short-run, but LighterLife gives you the opportunity to understand yourself better and find out what purpose reaching for the food or clicking on your mouse has been saving. What are you really feeling in these moments? People often think they're hungry for food or a quick burst of excitement and miss what they're actually hungry for. Ask yourself 'What do I really want right now? Often the answer is that you're tired, bored or lonely. Once you can identify these things, you can then decide how to satisfy the real need. The LighterLife group can help you explore this further and gives you the chance to develop new skills to behave in a way that, in the long-run, is going to support a healthier lifestyle (and bank balance! )
