Ruairi Quinn TD to open Labour office in Castlebar today

Labours National Director of Elections and Education spokesperson, Ruairi Quinn TD is coming to Castlebar today (Monday ) to open Dr Jerry Cowley's campaign office at Lower Chapel Street at 3.30pm.

Welcoming the coming visit Dr Jerry Cowley said: “I am delighted that Ruairi has taken time out from his busy schedule to do this opening. He bears the enviable record of being Ireland's most successful ever finance minister. I know we would not be in this mess if he had continued in that post.”

Following the opening of the office Dr Cowley will hand in his nomination papers at the Courthouse. Dr Cowley commented: “I am delighted that I will be accompanied by Labour stalwart, former councillor Johnny Mee; former General Election candidate, Gerry Boyle and sitting Town Councillors, Harry Barrett and Keith Martin. It is important that those who have carried the Labour flag in Mayo are with me on the day. Labour is building a strong campaign to regain the seat last held by then Labour party leader Thomas J O'Connell in 1932.”

Dr Cowley added: “The canvas to date from Belmullet to Ballinrobe and Westport to Charlestown has been invigorating. People are welcoming the Labour message of fairness and equity for all. The jobs stimulus proposals are generating favourable replies and I am certain we will win a seat on February 25th.”
