‘Out of it’ man got into stolen car to buy a pizza

A 22-year-old man who was “out of it” on drink and drugs and got into a stolen car, which was his neighbours, was before Castlebar District Court this week for unauthorised carriage in a mechanically propelled vehicle.

On the night of September 21 2010, a car was stolen from outside 2 Riverside, Castlebar. The car was later abandoned on Marion Row.

CCTV from Casey’s Centra observed James Kilbane, 156 Knocknaphunta, Westport Road, Castlebar enter the petrol station and purchase items before he got into the back seat of the car. He was not driving the car and there were a number of people in the car. At the time of the incident Kilbane was living in 3 Riverside and in the “spur of the moment” he got into his neighbours car, which he was not authorised to be in, to go buy pizza and a can of coke.

Kilbane, who has no previous convictions is now residing in Achill.

Judge Mary Devins remanded him on continuing bail to December 7 for sentencing.
