The annual Westport Cathaoirleach awards will be presented at the Cathaoirleach’s Ball on February 19 in Knockranny House Hotel.
Entry forms are now available to nominate local people in community, sport, art/culture, and commercial categories. Forms are available from the town council, the library, and the leisure centre. An independent panel of judges will select the winners.
The designated charity for this year’s Cathaoirleach’s Ball will be Cystic Fibrosis Unit.
Councillor Christy Hyland said that people in the community might consider nominating some local women who recently gave evidence in court against “a number of local blackguards”. Cllr Hyland said that the actions of these women showed that “great citizens of the town, will not tolerate” such criminal behaviour.
