Man went to chipper after he tipped car

A man who when attempting to park his car struck another car was before Ballina District Court this week. The court heard that the defendant left the scene of the accident and went to the chipper, where he was picked up by gardaí.

Daniel O’Brien, with a listed address at Cloonagh, Drumkeeran, Co Leitrim was before the court on charges of careless driving, for failing to remain at the scene of an accident, for not having insurance, and also on a drink driving charge, which was dismissed.

Garda Eanna Cuffe arrived at the scene of a minor road traffic collision on April 26 2010 at 9.50pm on Pearse Street, where he met Catriona Forde. Ms Forde said that her car had been tipped on two occasions by a man’s car as he parked behind her. This defendant (O’Brien ) then left the scene and went across the road to Supermac’s. Garda Cuffe located the defendant inside the takeaway.

O’Brien, who is now employed in Ballina, has one previous road traffic conviction.

For not having insurance, Judge Mary Devins convicted and fined him €700 and disqualified him from driving for one year. For careless driving he was convicted and fined €250, for not having a driving licence he was convicted and fined €150, and for not remaining at the scene he was convicted and fined €250.
