Man drove on wrong side of road due to poor road surface

A man who gardaí saw driving on the wrong side of the road at 4am was before Ballina District Court this week

Garda John Barrett observed Eamon Callaghan, The Boreen, Crossmolina at Gurteens on the Crossmolina Road at 4am on September 21 2010.

When stopped about his driving Callaghan said, “Sure there is nothing on the road at this time of night”. The defendant failed to pay a fine.

According to the defendant’s solicitor, Callaghan drove on the opposite side of the road due to the poor road surface. Judge Mary Devins agreed that it was “a very poor road.”

The judge directed that the defendant contribute €100 to Mayo Roscommon Hospice and applied the Probation Act.
