People in pub after close

Twenty five patrons were discovered in the bar of Danagher’s Hotel, Cong, after closing time, with alcohol in front of them, Castlebar District Court heard this week.

On May 21 gardaí entered Danagher’s Hotel at 1am and discovered a number of patrons with fresh alcohol in front of them.

The licensee, Helena Byrne, Abbey Street, Cong, was present.

The defendant, who has been a licensee for 21 years, has no such previous convictions. Her defence was that on the night in question there was a live band on the premises and it was hard to clear the crowd.

Judge Mary Devins convicted and fined her €300.
