Mayo woman’s winning ‘Scat Man’ dance on hit Sky TV show

A Mayo woman has been making waves on Sky TV recently after staging a winning performance on the hit show Got To Dance, headed up by celebrity host Davina McCall and offering a prize fund of £250,000.

Having passed through the qualification stages, 34-year-old Bridget Clarke originally from Ballycastle impressed by performing an energetic routine to ‘Scat Man’ in her bid to spread a little happiness to the judging panel (Davina commented that it reminded her a bit of her husband Matthew’s self taught “freestyle disco” routine ).

Speaking about her passion for dance and the reason behind her stage name of ‘Happiness’, Bridget explained: “Whenever I hear music, all I want to do is move. It’s simple – like the soul wants to express itself. People express themselves through song, poetry, I do it through dance, it’s where I feel most alive. It just makes you happy.”

According to the show’s producers: “Happiness is a bubble of energy and positivity. She is currently a presenter/research volunteer at Community Radio Castlebar but wants to present on TV. Bridget started doing Irish dancing in primary school aged 10, but other than that has never taken any lessons. She is completely self-taught and showcases her unique style in her local night-clubs and loves completely letting loose.”

Bridget took to the stage in front of an expert, contemporary, dance panel consisting of Diversity lead choreographer Ashley Banjo, former Pussycat Doll Kimberly Wyatt, and Tap Dogs star Adam Garcia. The acts are competing for one of 28 places available on the judges’ shortlist in order to be in with a chance to dance in front of a studio audience of more than 1,000 people and winning the biggest talent show prize of £250,000.
