Local authorities in Mayo, Galway, and Sligo are working together to tackle the main causes of collisions. The message of this year's campaign is simple — Get Home Safely.
“Safety is the most important thing we do every day when we commute,” said Noel Gibbons, road safety officer with Mayo County Council. “We want to be able to take this message out into the community and remind people that there are consequences when you don't drive carefully and safely on our country's roads and more so in these demanding weather conditions.”
Inspector Martin Byrne added: “I support this campaign because I recognise the devastating effect that road deaths have on the families involved and on the wider community. It's a problem that can, and must, be tackled through individuals making a commitment to slowing down.”
