Three year disqualification for Ballinrobe man

A 45-year-old man, who did a U-turn when he observed a Garda checkpoint, was this week disqualified from driving for three years after he was convicted of drink driving.

On February 23 at 1.20am gardaí had established a checkpoint in Claremorris. A car driven by James Gibbons, Cregduff, Ballinrobe, was observed to do a U-turn as it approached the checkpoint. At around 2am, gardaí observed the same car drive in front of them on the Ballinrobe Road travelling in the Hollymount direction. Gibbons suddenly pulled over and got out of his car.

The defendant was arrested on the suspicion of drink driving and a blood sample later provided showed 176mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood.

The defendant, who has no previous convictions, was convicted and fined €500 and disqualified for three years.
