A man who crashed his car into another and who left the scene on foot was before Castlebar District Court this week.

On March 24 2010, Michael Staunton, Cloonduane, Belcarra, crashed his car into the back of one car which in turn struck the car in front, which was making a right turn into the industrial estate at Moneen.

Staunton checked if the driver of the first car was OK, before he abandoned the car and walked away from the scene.

The defendant called to the Garda station the following day where he admitted driving.

The 33-year-old has three previous road traffic convictions.

For careless driving Judge Mary Devins convicted and fined him €300 and for failing to remain at the scene he was convicted and fined €200.
