Westport Leisure Centre a ‘flagship’ project in the town

At the annual presentation made by the general manager of the Westport Leisure Centre, town councillors praised the facilities, staff, and management of the leisure centre and urged the public to use the impressive facility.

At last Thursday evening’s meeting, Dermot Langan outlined that “overall” the state of the centre’s finances are not too bad, as even though sales have dropped by 13 per cent in the past year (majority of losses in vending and health and beauty services ) operating costs have also been decreased by 13 per cent.

Town councillors complimented the leisure centre, in particular the disability services which are provided.

Cathaoirleach of the town council, Councillor Tereasa McGuire, said that the leisure centre is the “jewel in the crown of the town” and that if people of the town “do not use it, then we will lose it”.

Town manager Joe Beirne said that the leisure centre is one of the “flagship” projects in the town and he hoped that it would be financially supported by the town council again in the upcoming budget
