A man from Ballina who drove his friends to work the morning after he was out the night before, was convicted, fined and disqualified at Foxford District Court on Tuesday.
Inspector Barry Foley outlined to the court that Stephen Padden, 21 Nephin Court, Ballina was detected drink driving on Sunday April 6 this year at 7.53am at Church View Terrace, Ballina. A subsequent urine analysis showed 188mg of alcohol per 100ml of urine.
Defending solicitor Michael Bohan said that the student, who has no previous convictions, consumed alcohol the night before and thought he was safe to drive the following morning and so dropped his friends at work.
Judge Mary Devins convicted and fined Padden €500 and disqualified him from driving for two years.
