Things are about to get very spooky at Bar Ritz!

Next Friday night Finbar Hoban Presents…the very special Hallowe’en Monster Mash fancy dress party with Grand Pocket Orchestra and Music for Dead Birds. After last week’s spectacular show with We Should be Dead, Sons of Gingerbread and Short Notice, the fun-loving music community of Castlebar were treated to a night of different traditions of rock and punk music. The show kicked off with Short Notice playing covers which warmed the heart of the crowd to the lead singer’s voice, and at half ten Sons of Gingerbread took to the stage to a huge round of applause from their GMIT, college friends and played an outstanding set which kept the audience’s attention till the very last song!

And then came the final act of the night when We Should Be Dead took to the stage and began their set with opening track “I Fell in Love with You” right through to “Ladies’ Night” and the ever enjoyable “Reason” from their recent album Forget Romance, Lets Dance. At times during this band’s tremendous show lead singer Tara Nix would wonder down into the Bar Ritz faithful crowd with microphone in hand and amazing the crowd with her talanted and excellent vocals. At the end of their set people were commenting on the energy of the band’s live show.

Finbar would like to thank the following people for making the night a huge success; Kate Mckeon, Karen Conway and Garret Waldron and also Westcoast Audio for providing sound on the night, and last but not least the staff of Bar Ritz for supporting this boutique alternative event.

The entertainment continues next Friday night October 31, Hallowe’en night, with Dublin group Grand Pocket Orchestra. In 2008 Grand Pocket Orchestra set about touring the Irish indie scene and moved into a brighter prospect internationally after releasing their debut E.P. to great reviews, and also featuring on a U.S. compilation Future Sounds.

The Band began touring and destroying eardrums in Ireland, the UK and Germany, their tracks were heard by The Notwist producer Mario Thaler who later recorded songs with the band at Dublin’s Apollo Studio’s, their recent release “Ballet Shoes” is a result of this meeting. Dublin’s Metro paper have compared the band’s sound to that of what Pavement might sound like after two flagons of cider. Grand Pocket Orchestra will be supported by Galway group Music For Dead Birds. with their haunting melodies-this is a group not to be missed.

So don’t forget to make it down to Bar Ritz next Friday night for the Halloween Monster Mash fancy dress party where there will be lots of prizes for the best dressed, and remember to get there early as it is going to be a night not to be missed, admission is €4 and doors open at 9pm.
