Ciarán Kelly, the Mayo native who saved all four penalties in Sligo Rovers’ famous FAI Ford Cup final win last month, is launching a new soccer academy. The academy is aimed at boys and girls between the ages of six and 13, and will kick off with weekly coaching sessions in Castlebar, Knock, Ballyheane, Ballinrobe and Claremorris.
“When I was young, I was passionate about soccer, but I didn’t have any real opportunities to play. This academy aims to provide young footballers with tips, hints and enjoyment to become better players,” said Mr Kelly.
“It is open to girls and boys of all abilities, and will develop their fundamental skills through practice and games. I will provide a safe, fun, coaching environment to encourage equality of participation through non-competitive drills.”
The following are the start dates and locations: Monday January 17: Castlebar Celtic Astroturf, 4pm to 6pm; Tuesday 18: Knock Astro-turf, 4pm to 7pm; Wednesday 19, Ballyheane Astroturf, 4pm to 7pm; Thursday 20: Ballinrobe indoor, 4pm to 7pm; Friday, 21, Claremorris Astroturf, 4pm to 7pm.
Each academy member will get an hour of coaching each week for eight weeks. Registration costs €60. Young people can sign up for the academy at the launch, or by logging onto www.CiaranKellySoccerAcademy.com Phone 087 206 2991.
