With freezing conditions descending across the county in the early mornings, Mayo County Council has turned to the power of social media to let people know where the problems on the roads are.
The local authority, which used Twitter effectively last year when the cold winter snap ground the country to a standstill, has this week started to tweet about weather conditions on the roads again. On Wednesday night the council tweeted about expected sharp ground frost and asked people to exercise caution on the roads. On Thursday morning it issued a warning about “Icy patches on roads this morning especially around Claremorris and Ballinrobe”.
