Politicians of all persuasions have in recent times been urging people to ensure they are registered to vote in time for the next general election - but following the chain of events in Dáil Éireann this week, the appeal suddenly grew more urgent.
Unfortunately, the closing date for the Register of Electors was Thursday, 25 November 2010, so anyone who failed to sign-up before this week will not now be eligible to vote in the next election - tipped for early next year.
The register can be checked on the electoral website (www.checktheregister.ie ).
