The community of Aughagower in Westport is in for some good news this week with the reopening of the Aghagower Post Office from Wednesday December 1.
Aughagower PO closed in August this year after a fire on the premises and since then customers have been travelling to Westport and other nearby offices. But come the first day of December, Postmaster John Scott will reopen his newly refurbished office.
In the days leading up to the official reopening An Post will also switch on new computer and counter technology equipment to enable post office customers at Aghagower to access the same level of services as customers throughout its nationwide 1,170 post office network.
The office will be fully geared for a host of online services including Post Office Savings, financial and banking services, BillPay, Top-Up and money transfer facilities, Prize Bonds and Gift Voucher purchases.
The Aghagower switch-on is timely in allowing local post office customers to access a host of new Christmas shopping options. Customers using the newly switched on office will now be part of 1.7 million customer visits to post offices nationwide each week.
An Post is now in the final phase of its plan to bring all its post offices into a fully computerised network. Over the past year nearly 200 rural offices have joined the existing integrated network and have the benefit of customised retail and customer service training.
