Car collided on wrong side of the road

A man whose car came round the bend on the wrong side of the road and collided with another car was disqualified from driving for two years at this week’s sitting of Ballina District Court.

On December 1 2009, gardaí were called to the scene of a traffic accident at Ballyglass where a car had struck another vehicle on the wrong side of the road.

Two passengers in the other car were injured. Having left the scene of the accident, Anthony Barrett, Carrowcubic, Ballycastle was subsequently discovered down a side lane . At first the defendant failed to give his correct name, but then disclosed it and admitted being the driver. The 45-year-old father has three previous convictions.

Judge Mary Devins convicted and fined Barrett €500 and disqualified him from driving for two years. The judge also directed that witness expenses of €120 be paid.
