A consultant rheumatologist, who will provide six hours per week service to Mayo General Hospital in Castlebar, is to be appointed in the next few weeks.
The matter was raised by Fianna Fáil councillor Annie May Reape at the November meeting of the HSE West Forum in Galway this week.
“There is a post that will be contracted to 31 hours per week, with six of those hours to be in Castlebar,” Chris Keane from the HSE replied. “It should all be approved very shortly, it has to be decided whether the six hours of service will be carried out in Castlebar in the next few weeks, but the hours will be dedicated to the patients from there.”
