Dramatic political twists and four-year plan ignite election campaign

Following the dramatic series of political events that kicked off at the beginning of the week, the electorate is now poised to vote in a new government to rule Ireland in early 2011.

While the threatened pull-out by the Green Party from the FF coalition government came as a shock on Monday, since then matters continue to move swiftly on as political pundits and the general public come to terms with the bailout application to the EU and the four-year austerity plan.

The next few weeks should prove extremely testing for all in the political world and no seat is safe. As our local politicians fight for their political lives, we expect to be hearing a lot from them now and will keep readers of the Mayo Advertiser informed as proceedings unfold. Expect some explosive developments.

Meanwhile, reaction to the four-year Government ‘recovery plan’ touted to restore confidence, create jobs and drive recovery, has already generated strong local reaction, as the Mayo Advertiser reports in this week’s issue.
