St Patrick’s Drama Group, Westport has been awarded the Mayo County Council Amateur Drama Award for 2010. Applications were assessed by an external, independent, expert panel who were very impressed with the standard in the county. St Patrick’s Drama Group have had an extremely active year and took to the stage with three well received productions – Makem and Clancy Are Coming by the group’s own Ciarán MacSuibhne, Martin McDonagh’s The Cripple of Inishmaan and Michael J McGinnelly’s A Wake in the West, which they staged in Dublin in March. The group have shown exemplary dedication to the future of their group and to the promotion of amateur drama in Mayo. Mayo County Council amateur drama awards are assessed on the following criteria: Innovation; development of excellence; quality and creativity. All amateur drama groups based in the county are eligible to apply for the award.
