Date for budget meeting set by Ballina Town Council

The members of Ballina Town Council agreed a date for what promises to be a very difficult budget for the local authority for next year this week.

“We have to hold a budget meeting between November 24 2010 and January 15 2011,” town clerk Carmel Murphy told the members this week. “Mayo County Council will be meeting on January 10 to have their budget meeting, so I suggest that we meet on January 13 and we would have three weeks from then to adopt the budget after meeting for the first time.”

Fine Gael councillor Mark Winters told the town clerk, “We normally have the figures before Christmas and have time to consider them over the Christmas break.”

Ms Murphy told him that the council would have to wait and see what Mayo County Council does first. “We also have to wait and see what the local government fund will be this year before we know what we have,” she added. Cllr Barry McLoughlin proposed the meeting to be held on January 13, and this seconded by Cllr Johnny O’Malley.
