At the recent meeting of Westport Town Council, it was proposed that Minster John Gormley visit Westport Town Council to see first hand how the council benefits the town.
According to Councillor Myles Staunton: “Westport Town Council is concerned at the attempt under the current Local Government Reform proposals to downgrade and dissolve democratically elected local authorities without any consultation or detailed analysis of the activities and finances of specific councils.”
On this basis Cllr Staunton proposed that the Minister of Environment, Heritage and Local Government be invited to attend the offices of Westport Town Council “to see and assess specifically the activities of Westport Town Council to see the benefits of it to Westport town”.
