Four months for stealing phones from handbags

A Lithuanian man who has been living in Ireland for four years was given a four month prison sentence in Claremorris District Court this week.

Julius Silkaitis 18 Claremount Manor, Knock Road, Claremorris, was caught by security staff in Millennium night club stealing handbags and going into the toilets and stealing two phones from two bags on the night of March 21 2010. The security staff detained Silkaitis until gardaí arrived and arrested him. All the property which was taken was recovered at the scene of the incident. Judge John Coughlan convicted and fined Silkaitis €400 and sentenced him to four months in prison for the theft.
