Jobs funding approved for Mayo community projects

Funding of €650,000 has been approved up to 2013 to employ people on a full-time basis in 11 Mayo community based projects including Community Radio Castlebar and Claremorris Community Radio,

The announcement by Minister for Social Protection Eamon Ó Cuív, who approved the funding (2011-2013 ) under the Community Services Programme in County Mayo, has been welcomed by Dara Calleary TD.

“The Community Services Programme is designed to work in partnership with local service providers where gaps are identified in the services or where there is insufficient demand for services that would normally be provided by the public and/or private sectors,” Dep Calleary said.

“At present the programme supports 2,700 people in employment, delivers a wide range of essential services and generates significant additional funds to the support and development of service providers. I am delighted the Minister has renewed these contracts.”

Also welcoming the announcement Deputy Beverley Flynn said the value of the contracts is worth more than €650,000 to the recipient bodies and the funding will allow the community groups to continue to provide services which have been operational for the past two years, as well as providing continued employment to participants.

She said the breakdown included grants to Foxford Sports and Leisure Company of €146,000, Crossmolina Community Services, €98,000, and CRC, Castlebar, and Claremorris Community radio, each of which receive contracts of €89,000. The other beneficiaries are each to receive some €38,000.
