Over 600 people applied for 90 newly created jobs at Tesco in Swinford, which opened its doors to the public this week.
The company opened a special recruitment office in the town in order to fill the vacancies but after two weeks closed it down having been inundated with applicants.
With more and more people desperate for work in the crumbling jobs market, the ratio of applications per job at Tesco now stands at 10:1. Local suppliers to Tesco Swinford include O’Hara’s Bread, Shamrock Foods, and John Costelloe’s farm in Ballyhaunis.
