There will be a big Mayo interest on Saturday night in Breaffy House Resort when the ring bell tolls and the pugilists are called to the centre of the ring to get the action under way. Three Mayo men are on the undercard of the night’s boxing which has been tagged as “Young Guns”.
Leading the Mayo interest in the competition is Irish light heavyweight champion John Waldron who will be defending his title against Ciaran Healy from Belfast in what will be his first title defence. Waldron has already faced off against his opponent for Saturday night as they met in his first professional bout, which he lost to the Belfast man. But Waldron, who is the first Mayo man to win a Irish professional title, will be going all guns to make sure that he does not lose that title and avenge his previous defeat. Also on the card for the night is Erris native Henry ‘the western warrior’ Coyle who will go toe to toe with Hungarian boxer Sandar Ramosca. Coyle who is based in Chicago has previously fought in the Breaffy House Resort and brings with him on Saturday night a 12-2 record with 10 of his professional wins coming by way of knockout. The third Mayo man on the bill is Finbar Eade who has three professional bouts behind them winning all three, with one of them by the way of knock out.
Topping the bill on the night is the bout between Cavan’s Andy Murray and world number 14 ranked Claudinei ‘Volcano’ Lacerda. Murray who is ranked number three in Europe will put his 22 fight unbeaten record against the talented Brazilian. Murray’s fight, along with that of Irish featherweight champion Patrick Hyland against Italian Massimo Morra, will be shown live on RTÉ 2 television from 9.30pm. Tickets for the Hunky Dorys Fight Night present Young Guns are priced from €40 and are on sale from Ticketmaster outlets nationwide and all usual outlets.
