Increase of nurses’ registration fees ‘unacceptable’ — O’Mahony

Mayo Fine Gael TD John O’Mahony has criticised the decision of An Bord Altranais (regulatory authority for nurses and midwives ) to increase the annual registration fee for nurses from January 1.

Nurses have all ready take a 15 per cent pay cut in the past year and now they are being asked to pay an increased registration fee. Many others have had their hours cut or their temporary contracts not renewed.

“Any increase in the registration fee has to be sanctioned by the Minister for Health, Mary Harney. I am calling on the Health Minister to reject this proposal by An Bord Altranais,” said Deputy O’Mahony.
