Bottles of spirits which were bought in Northern Ireland were found in a pub in Ballina, after Customs and Excise carried out an inspection of the premises.
Ballina District Court heard this week that on May 29 2009, Customs and Excise officers visited Moclairs Pub, Bridge Street, Ballina, which is owned by Glen Rí Taverns Ltd.
It was discovered that tax had not been paid on a number of bottles of alcohol which were bought by the one of the company’s directors in Northern Ireland.
Judge Aeneas McCarthy convicted and fined the company €5,000 which he mitigated to €2,500.
