Butcher admits he made a mistake drinking and driving

A Slovakian man who works as a butcher pleaded guilty to drink driving and admitted he made a mistake, when he appeared at Ballyhaunis District Court this week.

Peter Matuska, 57 The Maples, Ballyhaunis, was fined €600 and disqualified from driving for three years by Judge Mary Devins.

Garda David Donnelly told the court that on April 17 2010 he was on patrol in Ballyhaunis at 3.46am and saw a car driving at excessive speed and turn into Hazel Hills estate. He said he followed the car into the estate and saw it nearly clip a curb, before he pulled over the driver. He arrested Matuska and brought him to Ballyhaunis Garda Station where Matuska gave a blood sample. The sample returned a reading of 187mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood.
