Drunk man punched his father

A 22-year-old man who punched his father a number of times in front of gardaí was before Ballina District Court on Tuesday, where he was given a suspended sentence.

Gardaí were called to a disturbance at St Patrick’s Estate, Ballina on October 18 at 1.40am.

Thomas Conroy, 64 St Patrick’s Estate, Ballina was observed to be shirtless, intoxicated and threatening and abusive.

The defendant was directed to leave the area and as he made his way home he met his father who he punched a number of times. Gardaí restrained Conroy.

The defendant, who has previous convictions, resides with his father. On the day in question both father and son spent the day drinking before the situation broke out. The court heard that this problem between Conroy and his father has resolved itself.

Judge Mary Devins convicted and sentenced him to three months in prison, which was suspended for 12 months.
