Fine Gael Leader, Enda Kenny, has contacted the Health Service Executive regarding the proposed Interim Oncology Day Services Unit at Mayo General Hospital in Castlebar and reports that refurbishment works are under way within the former Clinical Decision Unit of the Main Hospital building to provide a new interim location with additional space for oncology day services.
“These works are due to be completed by the end of November 2010 and will be ready for occupation in December 2010. Some other good news relates to the MRI scanner that was donated from voluntary contributions and the excellent work of the local Bright Eyes Committee. The contracts works are scheduled to start on November 1, 2010; the planned project duration for the necessary associated works is a total of five months.”
Deputy Kenny added: “ Both of these facilities will provide much needed medical care to the people of County Mayo. We have had numerous announcements regarding funding cutbacks in the HSE Western Region recently but I am delighted that these two facilities will continue as planned.”
