Chef disqualified from driving

A 22-year-old chef was disqualified from driving for three years after she pleaded guilty to drink driving at Castlebar District Court this week.

At 3.35am on February 10, Maria O’Donnell, Derrycourane, Islandeady, Castlebar, was detected drink driving at Knockthomas, Castlebar, after the defendant drove the wrong way around a roundabout on Lower Charles Street.

A blood sample provided showed a reading of 214mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood.

The court heard that O’Donnell, who was out for the night, decided to move her car to a car park for safekeeping when she was stopped.

O’Donnell, who has no previous convictions, was convicted and fined €500 and disqualified from driving for three years. The disqualification is not to come into effect until December 1.
