Water schemes funding of €1.1m welcomed

A € 1.1m funding allocation for water schemes in Mayo has been welcomed by Beverley Flynn TD.

The funding is part of a €10m allocation nationally to water service authorities for special attention to water schemes which have potential issues regarding the safety and security of supplies.

“This funding is to address the needs of water supplies listed by the Environmental Protection Agency as requiring attention,” said Deputy Flynn, adding that the EPA had drawn up a remedial action list in 2008 to ensure clean and wholesome drinking water from source to tap.

“I am very pleased at the substantial funding allocated to Mayo, this represents exchequer funding of 75 per cent of the total costs involved,” she said.

The allocations were announced by Michael Finneran, Minister for Housing and Water Supplies.
