Keep your immune system in check

The cold and flu season has arrived for another year targeting weak immune systems all over the county. A Vogel herbal advisor, Rick North, gives us five simple tips to help boost our immune systems and keep our health in check.

Rest

When you feel a cold or flu coming on, the most important thing you can do is get some rest. This helps your body focus on your immune system, which is working hard to fight off infections. Lying down and getting some rest will help your body to focus its energy on fighting off the infection.

Say no to sugar

Eliminating refined sugar from your diet is one of the best things that you can do to boost your immune system. Refined sugar found in fizzy drinks, junk food, white bread, sweets and chocolate, can slow down your immune system for up to five hours as it interferes with the absorption of essential vitamins and minerals.

Get fruity

Eating fresh fruit and vegetables every day is one of the easiest ways to boost your immune system. They are packed with antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, fibre, and enzymes to keep you in tip top shape. Dark leafy vegetables like spinach, kale, and broccoli are extremely rich in the immune boosting vitamin C while berries, grapes, and kiwis are full of antioxidants - and be sure to get outside for some healthy fresh air.
