‘Free runners’ before court for trespassing

Two men who took part in free running — a form of urban acrobatics, where runners use landscapes to perform movements — were before Castlebar District Court for trespassing charges.

Gardaí were informed on November 1 at 2.35am, that a group of men were on the roof of a house in the Viewpoint area of Castlebar. Gardaí searched the area and discovered Ryan Sheridan, 12 Carrowncurry, Castlebar, and Sean Brizay, Derrycoosh, Islandeady, Castlebar. They said they were taking part in free running and meant no harm in their actions.

Brizay, who is a 20-year-old student of engineering, has no previous convictions. Nineteen-year-old Sheridan is a graphic design student, who has three previous convictions

Brizay was directed to pay €150 to the householders, or to a charity of their choice. As for Sheridan, his case was adjourned until February 2 2011 for a community service assessment report. If found suitable, the defendant will complete 120 hours community service in lieu of three months in prison.
