Money stolen from barber shop

A Lithuanian man (42 ), who in the space of two years has clocked up 25 theft convictions, was before Castlebar District Court this week for another theft charge.

Arunas Sorokinas, Woodquay Hostel, Galway, stole €70 from the counter of Noel’s Barber Shop, Dalton Street, Claremorris, on July 22 of this year.

The defendant was arrested a few minutes after the theft for being intoxicated in a public place.

The court heard that Sorokinas had gone to Claremorris for a month to seek employment and as he had no money he ended up sleeping rough. The defendant also had a severe alcohol problem, which recently resulted in his having a stroke.

Judge Mary Devins remanded him on continuing bail to December 1 to see if the money is paid back to the owner of the barbers.
