Offensive graffiti on the Greenway from Westport to the Quay, was condemned by a local area councillor at a meeting on Monday, however the senior executive officer, Martin Keating, reassured members that in comparison to other towns graffiti in Westport is at a much lower level.
Councillor John O’Malley told the area meeting on Monday about the offensive graffiti and also noted that a concrete shelter on the Greenway was recently used by youths for a party, where they also lit a fire.
Mr Keating said the Greenway is under the remit of the town council and the matter needs to be referred to it, however “graffiti in Westport is at a lower level than any other town”.
Cllr Peter Flynn also reiterated that vandalism in the area is “relatively limited” and that the Greenway is still a family location which is well used.
