Audiences are in for a rare treat with the Puppet State Company’s adaptation of The Man Who Planted Trees which comes to Castlebar’s Linenhall Arts Centre on Friday October 22 and Saturday October 23 for the RoolaBoola Children’s Arts Festival. An engaging blend of comedy, puppetry, and inspiring storytelling, this beautiful show has become a regular feature in the fringe programme of UK and Scottish festivals, selling out and winning awards for the last two years.
Based on Jean Giono’s world famous classic, it tells the story of a poor French shepherd who dedicates his life to planting thousands of trees in a desolate area, completely transforming the landscape and the lives of the people who live there, without ever seeking reward or recognition. As much a touching tale as it is a hilarious puppet show, The Man Who Planted Trees shows us the difference one man (and his dog! ) can make to the world. Marie Farrell, director of the Linenhall Arts Centre, is delighted to have secured The Man Who Planted Trees for this year’s RoolaBoola Children’s Arts Festival.
The Man Who Planted Trees is a lovely story, touching, heart-warming, and inspirational. Add to this a beautifully constructed set and puppets, a few giant fans for wafting evocative scented oils around the audience, and you have a wonderful, enchanting, piece of theatre for children or for adults. This really could not come more highly recommended.
