Mayo groups to receive funding for safety of older people

Pat Carey TD, Minister at the Department of Community, Equality and Gaeltacht Affairs, has announced funding of over €39,000 for a further 24 community and voluntary groups under the new Seniors Alert Scheme. In Mayo groups to receive funding are Fahy Community Alert Group, €279.90; Louisburgh Lecanvey Community Alert, €547.00; SVDP St Colman’s Conference, €2,458.00.

The scheme provides grant support towards the cost of supplying and installing items of safety and security equipment, including personal monitored alert systems. Grant support is available to persons who are aged 65 years or older, of limited means and living alone or with other eligible persons.

“The equipment funded will enable these older people to continue to live securely in their homes with confidence, independence and peace of mind,” said Minister Carey.
