Confirmation of Mayo Abbey National School funding

Fine Gael Leader, Enda Kenny, TD, has received written confirmation from the Department of Education and Skills that a grant has been approved for Mayo Abbey National School to construct additional accommodation for a new three classroom building. The current school is almost 115 years old and is in need of serious improvement works.

Deputy Kenny added: “I welcome this confirmation as it is an issue that has been ongoing for a number of years, with works required ranging from the need for a new heating system to the single glazed windows needing replacement, and the 112-year-old wooden floor boards in place since the school first opened needing replacement. I will be pursuing the Minister for Education and Skills, Batt O'Keeffe, TD, to ensure that this project moves as quickly as possible. I also wish to take this opportunity to congratulate the students, staff, and board of management who had actively campaigned on this issue.”
