Castlebar mourns loss of popular figures

The town of Castlebar has been plunged into mourning following the news that two popular figures lost their lives in an accident off Inishbofin island early on Sunday morning. The bodies of former Mayo footballer, Ger Feeney (55 ) , The Oaks, Castlebar and business man Donal McEllin (64 ), Maryland, Castlebar were found in waters off Inishbofin over the weekend.

It is believed that the men got into difficulties near the island in the early hours of Sunday morning. The alert was raised when the body of one of the men was washed ashore on Sunday morning and the body of the second man was found underneath a rigid inflatable boat, beside the motor cruiser they had sailed to Inishbofin in, on Saturday. The bodies which were recovered by the RNLI Clifden lifeboat were brought to Galway University Hospital for identification and post-mortem on Sunday afternoon.

Ger Feeney will repose at Coady’s Funeral Home, Castlebar tomorrow evening, Tuesday October 12 from 5pm to 8pm with removal to the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar afterwards. Requiem mass will be held on Wednesday morning at 11am, with the funeral proceeding to Ballintubber Abbey cemetery afterwards. House strictly private.

Donal McEllin will repose at his residence in Maryland on Wednesday evening, October 13 from 4pm until 8pm, with removal to the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar on Thursday morning at 11am, with funeral mass at 12pm. Burial will take place afterwards in Balla cemetery.
