The inaugural Safe Heart Awareness Week which is launched by Croí takes place from October 20 to 27. Cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of death in Ireland and the Irish heart charity is calling on people to know the risk factors that can affect their heart health and to be aware of the steps that can be taken to achieve the recommended target levels.
As part of this awareness initiative, Croí, supported by MSD-Schering Plough, have developed a user-friendly Safe Heart Card which allows people to keep a record of their risk factors for heart disease, such as cholesterol, blood pressure, and body mass index (BMI ).
The pocket-sized card also allows individuals to record their current medication, lifestyle goals and objectives.
