A Castlebar man who was found in possession of a five inch butterfly knife was before Castlebar District Court on Wednesday.
Garda William Grant outlined that on October 15 2009 he stopped a car which was driven by Stephen Conway, 20 Springfield Court, Castlebar. A drugs search was carried out and during the search a knife was found in the glove compartment. No drugs were found in the search.
Conway told the court that he bought the knife from a fishing shop in Malaga, from where he had just returned the day before. The defendant intended to use the knife for fishing.
The defendant, who is originally from Tourmakeady, but who now resides in London, was given the Probation Act by Judge Mary Devins. The judge also directed the forfeiture of the knife.
