Criminal damage caused to van in dispute

An ongoing dispute between two Travelling communities in Castlebar resulted in an incident where €1,800 damage was caused to a van.

On July 20 at 10.30am, Garda Roisin Loftus was called to a dispute at Cois Abhainn, Castlebar.

Bernie McDonagh, 35 Cois Abhainn, Castlebar, had caused substantial damage to his cousin’s van, with the total damage amounting to €1,800.

The 19-year-old man, who now resides in Longford in order to get away from the ongoing feud, had compensation in court.

Judge Mary Devins remanded McDonagh on continuing bail to February 2 2011 for sentencing, and if there is no further trouble between the two parties certain recommendations will be made. The prosecution was given liberty to re-enter.
