Fine Gael Leader Enda Kenny TD has said that the latest reply from the Minister for Education and Science regarding the provision of a new Gaelscoil in Westport is typical of a Government that has broken every promise in the last ten years.
“It is now over ten years since aitheantas oifigiúil or official recognition was given to Gaelscoil na Cruaiche in Westport and since then there has been a whole series of delays put in the way of this school being provided. This should not be the case and if the Department of Education, the Minister for Education and the Government were serious about this, this school would have been built long ago and pupils attending there on a daily basis. Similar treatment was delivered from the Department of Education and the Government in respect of the sports hall in Davitt College which went on for 20 years and for a litany of other school buildings in Mayo. I hope that the people will remember this kind of activity from a Government that has broken every promise to date when it next has the opportunity to vote on their record.”
