County council urged to promote Mayo tourism trail plan

Committee members of the cultural, education, heritage, and corporate affairs SPC have formulated a policy recommending Mayo County Council to link a number of different significant and important sites through road networks from various access points throughout the county.

This Turas Mhaigh Eo recommendation was outlined by director of services Joe Loftus at the meeting held in Turlough Park House on Wednesday.

Chair of the SPC, Councillor Al McDonnell, said that the policy should have five to 10 major attractions listed alongside satellite attractions, all of which geographically span the county.

Cllr Eugene McCormack proposed the policy as “a very important initiative”. This was seconded by Cllr Joe Mellett who said that tourism in Mayo “is the future”.
