A quarry owner who did not use a tacograph on his lorry was this week convicted and fined €300.
At Ballina District Court on Tuesday, the court heard that on June 4 this year at 8.30am, Garda John Flanagan stopped Declan Birrane, Creevagh, Carrowmore, Lacken, at a checkpoint in Ballina.
Garda Flanagan noted that the left rear tyre of the lorry was excessively worn and when asked to produce his tachograph Birrane admitted that he did not use it.
The defendant, who owns the lorry and who only drives it himself, has one previous road traffic conviction.
Judge Mary Devins convicted and fined him €200 for failing to produce his tachograph and €100 for having a bald tyre.
