Fine Gael spokesperson on social protection, Deputy Michael Ring has said that his party will support the arts in Government, pointing to the sector’s vital role in Irish society.
“During times of recession, the arts have never been more important. In fact, the annual economic contribution of the arts is €782 million. The arts has always been central to Irish life and any attempts to downgrade the role of our artists, actors, playwrights, sculptors, and musicians has the potential to do serious damage to the country.
“Fine Gael is determined to support the arts when we are elected to government,” added Dep Ring. “Every person in Ireland, no matter where they live, should have access to the finest of Irish arts and I am determined to ensure that is the case.”
